In news leading up to the IBC show transmitter-maker Nautel has announced that it is shipping VX FM analog transmitters. These are available in power from 150 W to 2 kW. Higher ranges are expected as the year progresses.

According to Nautel the VX family “builds” on the previous VS line. It is also compatible with Nautel’s Advanced User Interface remote control/monitoring system. According to a release the VX “incorporates state-of-the-art DSP, power supply, and FET technology to ensure robust performance, serviceability and value.” An available option is an Orban Inside onboard signal processor.

In other Nautel news, the company, in conjunction with audio processor developer Orban, will be pushing use of MDCL for its NX AM transmitters for improving power efficiency in Amsterdam.

A release explained: “Tests conducted by the two companies have repeatedly demonstrated that broadcasters operating –6 AMC MDCL can save up to 70% in power costs over non-MDCL operation.” Nautel offers a web calculator for prospective energy (hence money too) savings.
