RDS/RBDS

Radio Data System or Radio Broadcast Data System — not to be confused with the programming data format. Regardless of which version of the system your country subscribes to, there are certain things that are common to all implementations. There are also things that are more commonly used in some areas than others. This session will talk about the different fields and how best to configure them, and some of the most common questions, as well as how to determine whether a system can handle dynamic RDS or static only and if you need some sort of middleware to make it all work.

With guest: Tony Peterle, Manager of Worldcast Systems Inc.

Transmitter Site Quirks

Power brownouts, patterns and directional signals, creative ways to get the signal from over there to over here… this will be a war stories session discussing creative solutions to unique problems and some of the oddities that have been encountered over the years. In addition to recounting some of his own experiences, Jeff wants stories from folks who have “been there and done that” – working on limited or no budget to get the job done.

July 27 at 12 p.m. EDT (6 p.m. CET)

The RF Toolkit

A deep dive into some planning tools available on the Nautel website:

  • The RF Coverage Tool provides Longley Rice calculations of coverage, including population count. It also includes a path plotter for determining point to point paths and Fresnel zones.
  • The HD Radio Calculator helps figure out how much HD carrier injection you should have available for your U.S. based station.

In this session, Jeff will show how to build a site and calculate coverage as well as how to configure and estimate reliability of point to point radio shots.
