France Culture’s “Savoirs+” hits half a million listens in first year

PARIS — Launched in October 2024, the podcast label “Savoirs+” (“Knowledge+”) brings together more than 20 major scientific and cultural institutions with a shared mission to promote the transmission of knowledge through audio. Available on the Radio France app, “Savoirs+” now counts 236 episodes and 34 curated series across 26 themed collections.

France Culture reports that for some partners, integration into the label has quadrupled podcast audiences.

Among the contributors are the Bibliothèque nationale de France (France’s National Library), the Fondation de l’Académie de Médecine (Academy of Medicine Foundation), the Institut du Monde Arabe (Arab World Institute), Inserm (the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research), the Collège de France (a public higher education and research institution in Paris), the Musée du Louvre (France’s national art museum), the Philharmonie de Paris (Paris Philharmonic concert hall), the Centre national du livre (National Book Center), the Musée d’Orsay (the national museum of 19th-century art located in Paris), Université Paris Cité (a major public research university), EHESS (School for Advanced Studies in the Social Sciences) and the Muséum national d’Histoire naturelle (National Museum of Natural History).

Marking the anniversary

To mark its first anniversary, France Culture brought together current and prospective partners at the Maison de la Radio et de la Musique in Paris for a series of workshops on podcast production. The sessions focused on sharing expertise and defining best editorial practices for the dissemination of knowledge.

Radio France reaffirmed its central role in public education and cultural outreach, noting that its networks collectively devote an average of 500 hours each week to programming dedicated to the transmission of knowledge across disciplines. In September 2025, the group launched the “Liberté de Savoir” initiative — a manifesto signed by more than 10,000 people, including representatives of partner institutions, academics, scientists, recognized content creators and leading Radio France presenters.

The “Savoirs+” initiative is also expanding internationally. The University of Lausanne in Switzerland joined the program at the start of the 2025 academic year.
