Ferncast aixtream 2.1 Enhances Customer Experience

Ferncast has released aixtream 2.1. The product is a scalable software solution, which runs as a server or VM installation. The company explains that Version 2.0 aimed to improve performance and stability, while this latest version expands service quality to improve the customer experience.

Version 2.1 features support for offline updates via USB and FTP. Through a Customer Service Center, users will be able to download updates and license files, allowing them to self-manage their updates.

“We focused a lot on the needs of our customers,” said Christian Thierfeld, Front End developer at Ferncast. “With aixtream 2.1 we start introducing the Customer Service Center integration into aixtream. The first milestone is the new software update system which shall reduce administrative efforts on the customer’s and Ferncast’s side and make future feature updates more easily available.”

The new version also allows users of DVB use cases to have RDS information in separate PIDs. Ferncast said it has worked on multiple quality-of-life improvements for DVB, such as making the system recognize if a set target bitrate is reasonable or out of bounds.

Ferncast says it has also made improvements related to online audio streaming (especially with Ybrid) and audio-on-demand processing, including better error and retry handling and management of default metadata.

In addition to fixing bugs, the company adds that developers have also improved on UI and archiving and optimized playlist generation.
