Spanish FM and online broadcaster esRadio has installed DHD RX2 audio production consoles at its studio headquarters in Madrid.
Part of the Libertad Digital media group, esRadio launched Sept. 7, 2009, under Libertad Digital founder Federico Jiménez Losantos. The network provides news programming, coverage of cultural and economic topics, and general entertainment. According to the company, it is now the fourth-largest commercial general-interest radio network in Spain.
Agrupación de Servicios y Productos de Audio supplied and commissioned the consoles and associated equipment. “The RX2 is a complete audio production system which advances esRadio’s quality and efficiency to a whole new level,” ASPA’s technical project management team said. “Designed for the most demanding broadcast environments, it has a scalable modular structure which offers maximum adaptability even in compact spaces.”
The installation includes two consoles, each with 18 physical faders. Each console combines three fader modules with one control module. A layering function doubles the available channel capacity, allowing operators to control more channels without increasing the physical footprint. The system uses 100 mm motorized faders with dust protection.
Professional solutions
ASPA said the consoles integrate 10.1-inch touchscreens into each section, allowing quick channel configuration and centralized control. Programmable RGB buttons and flexible encoders adapt their functions to the screen content and provide access to tools such as equalizers, dynamics and gain adjustment.
A compact core unit sits at the center of each DHD system, handling an audio matrix supporting up to 96 fully processed stereo faders. ASPA said the core operates without hard drives or fans, which helps maintain quiet operation and reduces maintenance requirements in studio environments. The system supports several audio networking standards, including Dante, AES67, Ravenna, ST 2110 and Madi.
For signal routing and communication between consoles, ASPA installed a DHD 52-7523 core matrix. According to ASPA, the configuration allows the routing of broadcast submatrices, the management of commercial breaks, and studio selection for broadcast via manual control or conditional logic via DHD’s MatrixControl system.
For daily broadcast operations, esRadio uses the XFrame Radio automation software developed by ASPA’s research and development team. ASPA said the system focuses on adaptability and operational security and has gained wide adoption in Spain with a growing international presence.
“We would like to thank esRadio for their continued trust in ASPA and our professional solutions over the years,” ASPA’s technical project management team said.
