EBU Offers Podcasting e-Master Classes

EBU Academy

The European Broadcasting Union offers professional development classes through its EBU Academy. This year, EBU Academy is focusing on four priorities, which it has pinpointed as valuable topics for its members’ growth and transformation: making new content, developing new narratives, leadership and security & protocols. Classes are virtual and are a mix of free and paid.

On the track of making new content, EBU Academy has two podcasting e-Master Classes (eMC) coming up.

How to Start a Podcast will take place April 26–30. This intro course is aimed towards those who have no experience in podcasting, but who are eager to start. Geared for radio editors, presenters and producers as well as any content creator, this class will teach the essential mix of audio and digital skills one needs to produce and distribute the first podcast.

The course will cover understanding the differences between podcasting and radio, best practice in storytelling, producing and marketing the end product. It will also address specificities of Public Media content and audiences. Participants will be invited to practice what they’ve learnt by planning, recording and mixing their own mini podcast.

Faculty members Justin Kings and Micky Curling will teach the skillset necessary to make a podcast: how to select the right story and get the essentials of storytelling.

Classes will be on April 26, 28 and 30 from 10:00 to 12:30 CET each day via Zoom.

The fee to register is €250.

Advanced Podcasting builds on the topics on the intro course. This advanced-level eMC combines teaching, live keynotes and one-to-one coaching to develop participants’ skills in three core areas: storytelling, sound design and community building. As part of the course, trainees will create a podcast using the skills they have learned in these areas.

Students will work in groups and each group will be offered a 30-minute development meeting with the trainers.

This course has four modules taking place over ten days, from June 15–25. Zoom classes with guest speakers will be on June 15, 17, 22 and 25 from 10:00 to 12:30 CET, with group work in between.

The fee to register is €350.
