The monthly tussle for top spot on the Triton Digital’s United States Podcast Ranker sees NPR’s NPR News switch places with audiochuck’s Crime Junkie to claim the number one spot for top podcasts by weekly average downloads.

The two shows have been vying for top spot in Triton Digital’s report since August 2022, although Crime Junkie has consistently been top of the pods by weekly average users since May 2022; for an insight into what it takes to produce a chart-topping podcast, audiochuck founder and host of Crime Junkie Ashley Flowers is the Keynote Speaker for day one of The Podcast Show in London in May.

Triton Digital is the global technology and services provider to the digital audio, podcast, and broadcast radio industries, and its January reporting period (January 2–29) of its U.S. Podcast Ranker reveals 233 million downloads.

SiriusXM Podcast Network remained in the number one spot on the Top Sales Networks Report, with 56.5 million average weekly downloads and 15.8 million average weekly users. NPR came in at number two with 36.9 million average weekly downloads and 7.0 million average weekly users, with Wondery climbing to third place with 31.2 million average weekly downloads and 8.1 million average weekly users.

This month marks Triton’s transition to publishing monthly data on its new dedicated site. The Rankers site features a new ability to export PDFs based upon different data filter criteria. The company says PDFs from 2022 will still be available to view.
