AEQ Alio gives voice to World Handball Games

AEQ Alio at a Women's Handball World Championships broadcast commentary point

The versatility of AEQ’s Alio IP audio codec came to the fore recently at the XXV Women’s Handball World Championship held in Spain between Dec. 1 and Dec. 19 last year. Thirty-two national teams from four different confederations competed for the world title.

The Royal Spanish Handball Federation organizing committee, as hosts, selected four sports pavilions from the Spanish Levante as official venues: Granollers Sports Palace, Pla de l’Arc Sports Center, Ciutat de Castelló Pavilion, and Torrevieja Sports Palace.

The organizing committee, in conjunction with TBS — Telefónica Broadcast Services — deployed AEQ IP audio codecs in all the venues for the respective sports commentators.

The AEQ Alio was the codec of choice for most of the broadcast points. Although specifically designed for sports broadcasts, it is versatile enough for use in varied scenarios, including music events. Its rugged, compact design is ideally suited for the tight spaces sports commentators often find themselves in, and because it is resistant to pressure, shock and even liquids, it’s ideal for outdoor events. The Alio’s features include tone control on each channel to adjust the timbre of the broadcaster’s voice and a dual-channel option should the broadcast require an external operator.

If you missed the event, the Norwegian team won its fourth world title by defeating the French in the final 2922, and Denmark beat hosts Spain to secure third position.
