AEQ beats at the heart of Nigerian broadcaster

Premier Radio is a new Nigerian private broadcaster in Kano State in the north of the country and its second-largest state after the capital, with a potential audience of more than 19 million people. Premier Radio is a community radio station with a variety of sports, news and entertainment programming focused on the country’s Kano culture and events such as the Durbar Equestrian Festival.

According to the station, AEQ technology is Premier Radio’s technical heart due to its robustness, ease of operation and modular design. The station has two AEQ Capitol digital consoles, the AEQ Audioplus automation system, AEQ Phoenix audio codecs, and the RPIX VisualRadio system. AEQ also supplied all the cabling, patch panels, and auxiliary material such as microphones, headphones, multimedia recorders, loudspeakers or PCs as a complete turnkey solution.

Mr. Abba Mohammed Dabo, Premier Radio’s director, says, “The radio station is very satisfied, and thanks to the equipment implemented, the audio quality has improved considerably.”

AEQ Capitol IP is an eight-channel fixed-configuration digital audio mixing console with a wide input capacity: four mic/line, 12 analog, four digital stereo AES/EBU (AES3), two digital stereo USB, two optional telephone lines, and optional digital multi-channel audio links, 16 AoIP channels over two Ethernet connectors or 64 MADI channels input over optical fiber.

Its output capacity is equally surprising for such a compact unit: eight analog, four digital stereo AES/EBU (AES3), two digital stereo USB, two optional telephone lines, optional digital multichannel audio links, 16 AoIP channels on two Ethernet connectors or 64 MADI channels input via fiber optics, control headphones, primary and secondary studio headphones, control monitoring, studio monitoring and a unique output for a pair of CUE speakers.

The station’s AEQ Capitol digital console integrates with the VisualRadio Radiopix system via IP so that the operations on the audio mixer, as well as the levels of the voices and signals that it handles internally, generate automatic commands to the VisualRadio system. This generates a streaming video signal of the studio that listeners can follow on the station’s website. Premier Radio is now seen as well as heard.
