An Orlando, Florida-based religious broadcaster used the recent Christian Music Broadcasters Momentum 23 conference at the Universal Studios Florida to show how to do a remote broadcast.

Taking advantage of being on home court, Z Ministries Radio’s Director of Engineering Brian Kerkan pulled out the stops.

He explained, “It was really something. We had a full [Wheatstone] LXE console with mic arms and tallies, a sub-mix studio for the bands, VoxPro for call-ins and editing and multiple screens. It was everything you’d find in a broadcast facility, but it was all remote.”

According to a release, Kerkan brought in two equipment racks that housed Wheatstone’s I/O Blades, a Cisco firewall and switch and various other gear. The broadcast also used codecs with “multiple channels between the home studio and the temporary studios at Universal, including a program channel for each station, upstream audio for talkback and a hybrid send.”

Additionally, a Wheatstone M4IP-USB four-channel networkable mic processor helped with the sound. And for eye candy, a 70-inch monitor captured the workflow for the conference attendees to see.

After the show, Z Ministries rerouted much of the equipment to its renovated studios in Altamonte Springs, Florida.
