Calling on Germany-based broadcast equipment manufacturer DHD, Belgian public broadcaster Vlaamse Radio- en Televisieomroeporganisatie, AKA VRT, has installed DHD consoles into its studios as part of a renovation that began 2022.
According to VRT system specialist Tom Hantson, the older main studio in Brussels featured an 18-year-old DHD RM4200. New requirements demanded an IP-native console and company-wide networking system so a DHD 12-fader RX2 was brought in to replace the still functional RM4200. A second studio followed with much the same complement. The workflow for the group had centered around a DHD 52/MX console network.
A wholly new studio has been constructed around a 10-fader desktop DHD SX2 digital mixer leading smaller MX mixers. The control room for the group has an 18-fader RX2.
Radio 2, another VRT facility, received a similar treatment starting earlier this year. The resident DHD 52/MX environment was supplanted by a 12-fader RX2 digital console and DHD TX touchscreen mixers.
With the installation VRT’s operation is almost wholly dependent upon DHD mixers. VRT has been using DHD equipment since 2003. The integrator for project was Belgium-based Amptec. It is also DHD’s Belgium distributor.
