UNESCO in collaboration with the World Health Organization is organizing Remote Radio Week. The online training program aims to strengthen the capacity of local radio stations to produce relevant and professional radio programming during any type of crisis. The event takes place Nov. 1–5 in four languages — English, French, Spanish and Arabic.
Remote Radio Week will cover different thematic areas, with a special focus on the COVID pandemic. The program targets radio station operators, professionals and managers worldwide, with an emphasis on the requirements of community stations. The virtual gathering, which lasts five days, will feature discussions, technical tips, workshops, and more.
“Remote Radio Week is an online event that focuses on the theme of remote radio. Through this initiative, we strive to help build the capacity of radio stations to produce radio in times of containment or radio at home,” explains Mirta Lourenco, chief of Media Development and Media And Information Literacy at UNESCO.
“This will prepare radio broadcasters for possible future crisis conditions, which may not only occur due to epidemics but also other emergency scenarios, such as the effects of climate change.”
