Triton Digital has released its latest U.S. Podcast Ranker, covering the period for Oct. 2–29.

The announcement reiterated the familiar pattern, “Yet again, SiriusXM Podcast Network remained in the #1 spot on the Top Sales Networks Report for the month of October, with 50.6M Average Weekly Downloads and 14.3M Average Weekly Users. Wondery came in again at #2 with 31.7M Average Weekly Downloads and 8.1M Average Weekly Users, followed by Audacy Podcast Network at #3 with 21.7M Average Weekly Downloads and 6.5M Average Weekly Users.”

Following last month’s U.S. Ranker note, NPR is currently excluded due to its continuing data migration project.

The most interesting nugget of info: “For the month of October podcast downloads are down 4.6% compared to September.” Triton attributes that little stumble to a change in Apple’s iOS which causes “Apple podcast episodes that are older than seven days [to] no longer be considered ‘new’ and automatically downloaded.”

In addition two new players have been added to the Ranker’s pool — PRX and Relevant Radio. These brought in some new blood into the various rankings, including “TED Talks Daily” from PRX.

And as always, the most popular podcast subject matters are news/current events and crime. Rankings for podcasts in other countries can be found at Triton Digital Podcast Rankers.
