Sublime Introduces New Program Roster

UTRECHT, Netherlands On Feb. 1, Dutch funk, soul and jazz station Sublime launched a new program roster — one of the new presenters is jazz saxophone artist Candy Dulfer.

In addition, former “Funky Friday” host Jaap Brienen will take on the station’s morning drive. Before joining Sublime, Brienen presented NPO Radio 6’s morning program “Eerst Jaap” (“Jaap First”) for nine years — the new Sublime program puts him back in the spotlight.

Candy Dulfer hosts “Candy’s World” on Sunday evenings with Sublime.

“With the ‘Sublieme Ochtendshow’ (‘Sublime Morning show’) I wake the audience up with old and new heroes of funk, soul and jazz, from Aretha Franklin to Gregory Porter,” Brienen said.

On Friday evenings, DJ Turne, backed by his reputation as festival afterparty-DJ on, among others, North Sea Jazz and Lowlands, produces the “Sublime Weekendmix,” offering a lineup of hip hop, soul and R&B. His colleague DJ Rob Manga switches to the Saturday night 9 p.m. – 12 a.m. time bracket with “The Groove,” mixing different musical styles.

But the biggest novelty is “Candy’s World” — a new radio show hosted by saxophone diva Candy Dulfer. The show airs on Sundays between 7 – 9 p.m. “I’m really happy about this opportunity and I love the challenge,” Dulfer said. “I’m not a true radio DJ, but I’m Candy the musician, and the program features my personal taste and experience. I hope to offer the audience a ‘view in the kitchen,’ and two hours full of funk and soul music.”

Sublime also features a new jingle package, produced by Pure Jingles. As part of the makeover, the station additionally appointed former NPO Radio 2 music editor as music director Martijn Soetens, emphasizing the importance of musical content in the new program roster. Rick Waltmann was named new station manager.

Finally, Sublime’s new tagline “Let’s Get It On,” replaces the station tagline “Join the Groove.”
