What equipment would a recording studio builder choose for their own demonstration studio?

An interesting question and in one case there is an answer.

Irish recording studio builder Smart Studio recently settled on Genelec monitors for its demo room in Dublin.

According to an announcement, “three 1237 three-way main monitors as the LCR solution, four 8331 coaxial three-ways for surrounds, four 8330 two-ways for the height channels” along with a 7380 subwoofer, were installed. Smart Studio designed the room to be Dolby Atmos 7.1.4-compatible to match what it considers to be the direction of the industry.

A Genelec Smart Active Monitoring System package was used for a voice over booth. Finishing touches and calibration were courtesy of Genelec Loudspeaker Manager.

Smart Studio’s Managing Director and Senior Designer Jim Dunne said, “Genelec are a very trusted brand. Everyone knows them — and everybody we know is using them — so we knew if we had Genelec in here, we would have a yardstick that people would be very comfortable with.”

He concluded, “The super-smooth low-end response and spatial accuracy of the system has really elevated this space.”
