BRUSSELS — On Oct. 25, commercial broadcaster Qmusic, part of DPG Media Group, launched a new DAB+ radio station that caters to R&B and hip-hop aficionados.

Under the banner “Q-Downtown,” the station claims to be the first DAB+ station in the country to focus on this musical genre.

Propelled by DJs and Q-Downtown ambassadors like Zoey Hasselbank, Raiatwinz, DJ Yones, Assia MK and Q-DJ Jolien Roets, the station offers a 24/7 mix of music from Drake to Beyonce and Lil Nas X, as well as homegrown talent like Zwangere Guy.

Encouraging Dialog

“We’re happy to announce the next addition to our digital package,” said Michael Dujardin, Qmusic’s channel manager. “We’re now able to offer a broad and accessible musical channel that connects with the younger generation’s way of life.”

Dujardin added that DPG Media wanted to create an inclusive content offer, reflecting today’s society. “Q-Downtown will become the platform where music and lifestyle come together, allowing room for dialog. In addition, we provide local talent the airplay time they don’t have today. Q-Downtown is complimentary to QMusic’s format and style.”

Alongside the musical content, Q-Downtown features news bulletins every hour. The station’s website will offer offer an audio-on-demand catalog including sets of resident DJs and in the coming months, dedicated podcasts developed together with the Q-Downtown community.

Starting Saturday Nov. 6, the Q-Downtown vibe will also run on the airwaves of Qmusic, with presenter Jolien Roets presenting the best of R&B and hip-hop between 8 and 10 p.m.

In addition to DAB+, the station is also available online, via the Q-app and through smart speakers.
