Broadcast equipment maker Lawo says it is discarding its Home apps system’s Core licensing scheme for a new one, Home Pass. This change will be effective with Home v4.x.
A release said, “The Home Pass system replaces all previous Home Core licenses. It does not affect other licenses on offer from Lawo, e.g. for Home Apps, add-ons for hardware devices, etc.”
The thinking behind this is that instead of paying for 24/7 licenses, users can pay for only the time they need.
Lawo’s Senior Director of Cloud and Infrastructure Solutions Axel Kern explained, “The real power of modern production environments lies in their elasticity — the freedom to scale up when demand spikes and scale back at other times. With Home v4.0, that flexibility now comes to Home through Home Passes. Whether you’re running a one-off event or managing a large, dynamic infrastructure, Home Passes activate only the devices and apps you need when you need them. When they are not in use, they can be switched off, instantly freeing up Lawo FLEX credits for whatever comes next.”
In other news from Lawo, a new Home app, Audio Shuffler. The announcement described it as “a software-based replacement for a traditional baseband audio matrix within an IP-based Dynamic Media Facility. Available in six packages in different sizes, it allows users to repackage incoming audio signals for different applications, to freely compile streams based on audio signals from a variety of sources, and otherwise customize an audio stream’s payload. This is especially handy for downstream applications and devices without built-in audio matrix functionality.”
Lawo Product Evangelist, Audio Infrastructure, Johan Boqvist, said, “Home Audio Shuffler provides broadcast and AV professionals with an agile software at scale to ensure that each audio stream is received and transmitted with the expected channel order and fully synchronized without dedicated broadcast hardware.”
