Wheatstone’s latest Wheat:News newsletter has a paean to radio station WYSO(FM) in Yellow Springs, Ohio (note those call letters and the name of the city and state), “WYSO Made Us Forget, Just for a Moment.” The former college radio station went independently-owned a few years and escaped neglected campus studios.
That’s where the story picks up.
Comedian Dave Chappelle, who calls the locale home, provide a historic school building and aided in renovation for new studios. Equipment dealer SCMS and studios developer radioDNA worked together for the on-air room along with edit bays. Wheatstone LXE consoles, blades and talent stations were installed, all riding a WheatNet IP network. ENCO automation was chosen.
Yet, despite the all new, modern equipment, the misty eyes are caused by Technics turntables and TASCAM cassette recorder/players.
