AMSTERDAM — As the summer progresses, it’s time to look forward to the fall. For our industry, that includes the annual IBC Show.
This year, it will be held Sept. 13–16 at the RAI convention center in Amsterdam. For the unfamiliar, the show will feature topical news, informational sessions, awards and a show floor for companies offering products and services for the industry. It can expect 40,000+ attendees.
The IBC says this show’s “core pillars” will be shifting business models, transformative tech and people and purpose. Drilling down, it points to AI, ad technology, cloud technology, immersive technology, OTT and streaming, and connected technology. You could say that the IBC Show is a technology show.
Show organizers promise over 1,200 exhibitors across its numerous show halls. There is something for everyone in all aspects of radio, TV, multimedia, regulatory, business, advertising, audience intelligence and the in-between, like gaming and virtual reality.
So, what’s on the menu? Show organizers have circulated this list of questions of interest:
- How is AI reshaping the broadcast business?
- What does human-machine collaboration mean for the future of content and creativity?
- How can we build a future-ready tech stack to support new business and operating models?
- What does emerging technology mean for live sports broadcasting post-Paris Olympics?
- How can the industry fight fake news and disinformation?
- What are the winning monetization strategies for streaming services?
- How are games impacting the media ecosystem?
This year, there will be a German Pavilion (8.A21, 8.A23) and a Great Britain/Northern Ireland Pavilion (8.B77). There will also be a Gaming and Esports Showcase plus an AI Tech Zone devoted to the topic, which cannot be ignored and was dominant at the NAB Show in Las Vegas in April.
The Digital Radio Mondiale Consortium will be at the show with “DRM — Connecting All Through Innovation,” and will invite those interested to participate in a Zoom virtual (Sept. 10) and two face-to-face events scheduled at 11 a.m. (Stand 1.B14 Gospell) and 4 p.m. (Stand 8.B80 Fraunhofer) in RAI for Sept. 14.
WorldDAB is also planning a Sept. 15 session during the show, but as of press time, details had not been finalized. Check with the WorldDAB stand, 8.A44, for the specifics.
