Finland-based Genelec’s speakers are popular among broadcasters and now the company’s owners are getting a little recognition for their successful business.

Maria, Mikko and Juho Martikainen, children of Genelec cofounder Ilpo Martikainen, were recognized as the 2023 Family Entrepreneurs of the Year in the Finnish section of EY’s Entrepreneur of the Year competition. “EY” is what accounting and business consultancy firm Ernst & Young is branding itself these days.

Leena Niemistö, chair of the selection jury, “Genelec has a strong commitment to research and development, and its manufacturing facility has remained in the Finnish city of Iisalmi since the company’s birth in 1978.”

Maria Martikainen said, “As second generation entrepreneurs, we’re proud to continue the story of Genelec — and as we celebrate the company’s 45th anniversary, we’re very grateful to have a team of such committed and passionate people around us.”

Genelec was founded in 1978 by Ilpo Martikainen and Topi Partanen.
