DRM digital radio on a smartphone — sounds like fun.

According to a release from the Digital Radio Mondiale Consortium, such a practice was just demonstrated at the BES Expo 2024 in New Delhi.

“[A] new technical development showcasing DRM Digital FM reception on a mobile Android phone” has been “introduced,” the release said.

Technical details were vague but the release said, “DRM Digital FM reception does not depend on proprietary receiver technology. It can be received easily on a mobile phone using an existing, off-the-shelf analog FM tuner chipset, as already used in billions of devices.”

If you’re at the BES show, drop by the DRM stand for a demonstration, C1 in Hall 12A at the Pragati Maidan.
