DNAV doubles up for new post

System specialist DNAV has bolstered its Rochester, New York team with the appointment of Ben Ackerman as software and field services engineer.

With a versatile and varied skillset, Ackerman’s duties at DNAV are two-fold. As field services engineer he will expand DNAV’s service reach into new areas, with duties including assisting with radio station integrations and maintaining transmitter sites in Buffalo, Rochester, and Syracuse, as well as integration work with Sierra Automated Systems and other equipment.

He will also help to develop new software and work on existing software solutions, including SAS’s Global Connect, a software-based NOC for radio broadcasters to operate, maintain and monitor devices across local and remote facilities.

“As one of those rare talents who knows both broadcast engineering and software development, Ben will help DNAV fulfill its role as a full-service dealer, installer, and technical services provider and will help DNAV build a strong foundation for continued growth and regional expansion,” says Daniel Hyatt, principal of DNAV.

Ackerman spent seven years at WXXI Public Broadcasting Council where he helped to design and maintain broadcast systems for WXXI-FM/AM/TV, WRUR-FM, WEOS-FM, WITH-FM, and WXXY-FM. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, with an emphasis on human-computer interaction and media in the digital age. 

“I love being right at the forefront of the radio industry, which is exactly where DNAV is positioned at this moment based on the quality and expanse of the work they do,” says Ackerman. “It’s exciting to develop new technologies and to apply concepts I learned as an engineer to solve long-running problems for the industry at large, and not just for the station I happened to be working for at the time. DNAV works across audio, visual and lighting and is a representative for SAS and other manufacturers specializing in broadcast, audio-visual, and public safety systems.
