Australian audio listening numbers released

Australia

Traditional “radio listener” numbers have been replaced by a multiheaded series of audio listener reports covering analog and digital over-the-air, streaming, podcasts and there’ll be more to come.

Australia is in the honoree’s seat today with a podcast ranker and GfK Radio Survey to examine for early 2024 numbers.

Triton Digital’s February Australia Podcast Ranker, in partnership with Commercial Radio & Audio is out. Rocketing to the top was the crime podcast, “Casefile True Crime,” followed by “Shameless,” “Mamamia Outloud,” “The Kyle and Jackie O Show” and “Conversation.” The top four had large listenership jumps month-over-month, reflecting the podcast world’s volatile new program release schedule and buzz-of-the-month listening patterns.

The top podcast producers were Australia Radio Network/iHeart, Southern Cross Australia’s LiSTNR, Australian Broadcast Corp., Audioboom and SiriusXM Podcast Network.

And a GfK Radio Survey is out that “showed promising growth in younger audiences,” according to a release.

Another finding: “Radio is always evolving to suit changing listening habits, which is why we continue to grow our audience to new record levels, and 82% of Australians are listening to commercial stations.”

Radio streaming was said to be up 2.9% and commercial DAB+ up by 5% in the 10-24-year old category.
