Ameca, a humanoid AI robot, helped Daniel Anstandig and Curtis LeGeyt open the 2024 NAB Show

Easily one of the most anticipated events of the 2024 NAB Show was the show’s Welcome Session address by Ameca, an “autonomously AI-powered humanoid robot,” on Monday morning.

Ameca was joined by a human Daniel Anstandig, CEO of Futuri Media, promoters and developers of artificial intelligence in radio.

There can be little doubt, going by the show floor, that AI is coming and no one is going to be able to stop it, despite some skepticism by the NAB itself, demonstrated in the preceding “Fireside Chat” with NAB President and CEO Curtis LeGeyt. He was interviewed by Adrienne Bankert of Nexstar Media Group’s NewsNation, who also worried about AI. They’d probably term that worry as “caution.”

The Ameca-Anstandig interaction flowed well though the spontaneity and humor were a little stiff. But Ameca answered questions and provided responses smoothly and without losing focus. As for the content “they” are both believers insisting that AI can help relieve the mundane drudgery that affects so many content creators, allowing them to actually “create” content. They view it as human AI teamwork rather than an invasion of AI job thieves or purveyors misinformation.
