100.5 DAS HITRADIO secures 15 more years on FM

On Sept. 16, the Media Council of Belgium’s German-speaking Community, the broadcasting regulator for the country’s eastern German-speaking region, granted regioMEDIEN AG a 15-year allocation for the two FM frequencies used by 100.5 DAS HITRADIO, a commercial German-language station based in Eupen. The new allocation takes effect Oct. 1, 2026, and runs through Oct. 1, 2041.

The frequencies are 100.5 MHz, which serves Eupen and the Belgian-German-Dutch border region, and 107.6 MHz from Wallerode/Honsfeld, which covers the southern part of Belgium’s German-speaking Community. The service also reaches parts of the surrounding Euregio Meuse-Rhine cross-border region.

The decision ends a series of short-term extensions introduced after the station’s previous authorization expired in June 2025. RegioMEDIEN AG was the only applicant after the frequencies were advertised in the Belgian Official Gazette on June 17, 2026.

Following a hearing and the submission of additional documents, the Media Council concluded that the company met the legal requirements covering editorial expertise and economic viability. It also set technical conditions for the frequencies, including their coverage areas and permitted transmitter power.

100.5 DAS HITRADIO also broadcasts on DAB+ through the BRF-operated regional multiplex on channel 8A. That service forms part of a DAB+ pilot project covering eastern Belgium and parts of the neighboring Euregio Meuse-Rhine.
