Italy opens applications for AI, 5G Broadcast and DAB investment funding
Aeranti-Corallo — the association representing Italian local radio and television broadcasters — reports that Italy’s Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy (MIMIT) has published an updated list of DAB+ transmission rights assigned to local radio network operators nationwide. The update reflects changes introduced through Agcom Resolution 145/25/CONS, which amended the regulator’s earlier Resolution 286/22/CONS covering national DAB+ frequency planning.
Agcom, Italy’s communications regulator, adopted Resolution 286/22/CONS to establish the country’s national DAB+ frequency plan, identifying transmission blocks for national and local radio operators. Resolution 145/25/CONS subsequently introduced amendments to the plan, including the reassignment of some frequency resources for use by local digital radio services.
The updated list, published by MIMIT and dated May 15, 2026, details the transmission rights assigned to local network operators in each technical area and coverage zone. These rights allow operators to run local DAB+ multiplexes under the conditions set out in current regulations.
According to the ministry, a total of 83 transmission rights have now been assigned across the 20 coverage areas defined in Italy’s national DAB+ plan. Sicily has received the most assignments, with 11 transmission rights, followed by Lazio with eight and Piedmont with seven. Lombardy and Campania have each been allocated five rights.
The current allocation of local DAB+ transmission rights is as follows:
- Piedmont: seven
- Valle d’Aosta: one
- Lombardy: five
- Autonomous Province of Trento: two
- Autonomous Province of Bolzano: three
- Veneto: four
- Friuli Venezia Giulia: two
- Liguria: three
- Emilia-Romagna: three
- Tuscany: four
- Umbria: three
- Marche: two
- Lazio: eight
- Abruzzo: two
- Molise: one
- Campania: five
- Puglia: four
- Basilicata: two
- Calabria: four
- Sicily: 11
- Sardinia: two
The updated list forms part of Italy’s ongoing rollout of DAB+ services and provides the regulatory framework for further expansion of local digital radio networks throughout the country.
