Médiamétrie reports decline in radio listening in French Guiana
Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Radio listening in French Guiana reached a cumulative audience of 44.7% between October and December 2025, representing around 95,000 listeners on an average weekday, according to the latest Métridom survey published by Médiamétrie, France’s national media audience measurement organization. Average daily listening time was three hours and six minutes.

The Métridom study is Médiamétrie’s radio audience survey covering France’s overseas territories, including French Guiana. Audience figures are based on weekday listening among residents aged 13 and over.

The results mark a decline compared with earlier waves. In April–May 2025, the cumulative audience reached 49.2%, equivalent to 105,800 listeners, with an average listening time of two hours and 46 minutes. A year earlier, in October–December 2024, radio reached 47.0% of the population, or 102,600 listeners, with an average listening time of three hours and eight minutes.

Generalist stations accounted for a cumulative audience of 28.1% in the most recent wave, or 59,700 listeners. They captured 60.1% of the total listening share, with an average listening time of two hours and 58 minutes. This compares with 32.9% cumulative audience in April–May 2025 and 28.4% in October–December 2024.

Music stations reached 21.4% of the population in October–December 2025, representing 45,500 listeners. Their audience share stood at 29.3%, with an average listening time of one hour and 54 minutes. While overall reach remained broadly stable year on year, average listening time declined compared with the same period in 2024.

Public versus commercial

Thematic stations recorded a cumulative audience of 5.0%, or 10,600 listeners, with a 7.2% audience share and average listening time of two hours and one minute, down from the previous survey wave.

Public service radio reached 25.4% of the population in French Guiana during the period, equivalent to 54,100 listeners, and accounted for 55.5% of total listening share. In France’s overseas territories, public service radio is operated by Radio France through regional networks and stations. Average listening time for public service stations reached three hours and one minute. Private commercial stations recorded a 20.5% cumulative audience share, while non-commercial associative stations recorded 8.1%.

Among individual stations, Guyane La 1ère remained the market leader, with a cumulative audience of 22.5% (47,700 listeners) and an average listening time of two hours and 53 minutes. The station is part of France Télévisions’ La 1ère network, which provides public service radio and television across France’s overseas regions. Trace FM Guyane followed with 6.7%, while Radio Mosaïque and Radio Peyi each reached 4.8%. NRJ Guyane recorded a 2.7% cumulative audience.

Médiamétrie said the results show radio continues to reach nearly 45% of the population in French Guiana on an average weekday, despite declines compared with previous survey waves, underlining the continued role of public service and generalist broadcasters in the territory’s audio landscape.
