Following Edison Research’s recent analysis of at-home audio listening across all formats in the United States, new data from the company shows that podcast listening at home has continued to climb, even as broader audio habits begin to normalize.
According to the latest Edison Podcast Metrics from Edison Research, 63% of weekly podcast consumers now say they listen to or watch podcasts most often at home. That figure has increased steadily from 48% in 2019 and rose sharply during the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic, when 58% of weekly podcast listeners cited the home as their primary consumption location.
The new findings build on Edison’s Share of Ear research, which examined how the pandemic shifted overall audio listening into the home between 2020 and 2022 before beginning to move back toward pre-COVID patterns. In contrast, Edison says podcast listening has become increasingly home-centric over time.
The company points to parallel shifts in podcast consumption behavior, including increased listening and viewing via connected TVs, as a factor likely contributing to the continued rise in at-home podcast use.
